Physicians Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Physicians - Essay Example Allowing people to select their own doctors will decrease the health care costs in the economy. This move will create an environment whereby Physicians will compete for clients thus leading to better services since physicians will be expecting more referrals from satisfied consumers (Dingwall 59). Doctors should not be licensed. According to the proponents of licensing, information asymmetries in the medical filed is the main aim of licensing since the government needs to protect consumers. Patients do not have prior knowledge of the quality of services to be provided but word-of mouth through referrals and doctor reputation can solve the information asymmetry problem (Dingwall 88). The consumer has still considerable market power since he can shop elsewhere for medical services if the service provided is either expensive or poor thus improving the quality of medical services. Licensing alone is not the best solution to protect the consumers since certification is enough to rid out the incompetent health service providers. Proponents of licensing argue that it makes the licensed Physicians provide competent services in an ethical manner since it makes them accountable for the health outcomes of patients (Dingwall 97). If there was no licensing, the price of Physician services will decline since there would be more competition among the physicians thus leading to reduction in costs. The need to comply with the licensing requirements also increases the costs of services and leads to more litigations that also raise the prices of services (Shi and Singh 78). If the medical field was not regulated, the quality of medical care would increase. Licensing reduces the number of available physicians and inflates the medical costs that limiting the access of health care by the poor population. Licensing also stifles

Business law - Article Example For example, in Europe, a three week vacation is normal but workers in America are not keen in even taking a week off much less three week vacation. Employers however are encouraging tenured employees to take vacation by giving them incentives ranging from $750 to $1,000. The idea was to avoid being burned out at work and to reduce work related stress. Nobody will disagree that everybody needs to rest and have a break at some point. Studies have shown as indicated in the article that employees who unplugs from work reduces the risk of being burned out and reduces work related stress. But having a mandatory long break in a business setting where long breaks are not typically taken may have an adverse effect on the operations and bottom line of a business which is not desirable particularly at this time where companies are still in the process of recovery from a long period of recession during the 2008 financial crisis. Employees having long vacation will obviously leave the business understaffed and a business who is not used to being undermanned may have hard time adjusting and this may affect the companyââ¬â¢s competitiveness. Having fewer tenured staffs around meant that the inexperienced employees have to step up and this could make the business under its optimal performance that could leave many customers dissatisfied thus undermining the competitiveness of the business. The timing of implementing sabbaticals or long vacation is also a suspect. It raises the question whether employers can actually afford giving its employees long vacation and to top it, with an incentive that goes with it. It is only recent that companies have recovered from the crisis and most companies may not yet that have deep reservoir of resources to send their employees on long vacation. The efficacy of the sabbatical program is also doubtful in American context who have the penchant of working long as ââ¬Å"work martyr complexââ¬

The Lost Television Series Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
The Lost Television Series - Essay Example The pilot excels in the introduction of characters, addressing the genre of the show, which is mysterious to the audience, and in using exciting storyline and great visual effects in making the viewers amazed (Roberts 41). The Lost writers made no fault in naming the first episode of Lost as the pilot. The naming was not through accident. As illustrated in the show, the naming was not done for the sake of doing it. It was named purposefully. This can be illustrated by the fact that as one goes through the show, he or she will discover that every little information that the writers give to lost fans has a particular meaning connected to the storyline earlier or later on in the Lostââ¬â¢s mysterious plot. In this case, it is wise getting the meaning of name the Pilot. The episode is about the search for the cockpit of the oceanic 815 airliners. The pilot of the airliner is in the cockpit. Therefore, the Lost writers chose the name the Pilot intentionally to create a play on words since the pilot was in the cockpit, which was being searched. This name choice was a subtle hint given to the audience by the writers. In other words, they were revealing to the audience the sign of what to expect. It should be, however, noted that nothing has been put straightforward in the Lost show (Douglas 27). The introduction of the main character in the Pilot has been done quite nicely in the first season of the show. Consequently, it is Matthew Fox, Doctor Jack Shephard who has been introduced as the first character in the showââ¬â¢s first scene. A golden lab sprinting through the jungle awakes him. On waking up Jack there is a very exciting overhead shot of his eyes. Among most of the characters found throughout the season, we find many shots. The shots are meant to perhaps bring a reflection of the notion the eyes constitute the windows for accessing the soul.à Ã

Failures of DRM and Digital content copyright Essay
Failures of DRM and Digital content copyright - Essay Example Additionally, according to Hombal & Prasad (2012, p. 237), the media must keep changing from one data format to another. Producers of digital materials ought to generate device-specific and product-specific licenses, which are only issued to the client after delivery, for use in specific devices. This implies that any reproduced copies only operate in the originally licensed device and the licensed product. Producers ought to collaborate with network experts such that if any attempt to reproduce digital materials in a device is sensed from any location. This requires a great deal of partnership, involving the hardware manufacturers who should install the electronic tracking units in the hardware devices. The devices can be configured to send information to central location for monitoring copyright reproduction. Simple 1 page journal entry on Kate Chopin Essay
Simple 1 page journal entry on Kate Chopin - Essay Example Chopin has also shown in the novel that women of that time had strong desires of autonomy and individuality but they were hardly able to fulfill those desires. In this short story, Chopin raised some important issues, which play their roles in the life of a woman. Some of those issues include importance of love and sex in marriage, factors of guilt and honesty, and sexual desires of women. Chopin revealed that women of that time had less freedom and they used to fulfill their desires using unconventional means. In this story, Chopin revealed that women of the late 19th century although had sexual desires but they used to keep their desires hidden because of the respect and esteem they had for themselves. In the view of Chopin, lives of the women in the late 19th century were focused towards their maternal roles and they had less freedom of expressing their sexual desires. Cell molecular biology Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Cell molecular biology - Essay Example array expression data for the cyclin genes of Tetrhymena thermophila were collected in an attempt to assess the role of individual cyclin gene products in the complex process of conjugation that characterizes the cell division cycle of this unicellular eukaryotic microorganism. The expression data were obtained from genomic databases and also from reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reactions (RT-PCR) performed to explore the cyclic expression patterns of the cyclin mRNAs during the cell cycle of T. thermophila. The results of this analysis indicated that most of the 23 identified cyclin genes in this microorganism are transcriptionally activated at specific points during the cell cycle. The combined assessment of expression patterns and comparative sequence analysis with studies that detail the sequence of cellular events that characterizes the process of conjugation were used to generate a hypothesis about the putative functions of each of the cyclin genes of T. thermophila in t he unique series of meiotic and meitotic cell divisions that characterizes the process of conjugation. The process of cell division in the ciliated protozoans involves a complex pattern of meiotic and mitotic cell divisions as well as major nuclear restructuring events that comprise a mode of cell division that involves mechanisms of genetic exchange that characterize the unique pattern of sexual reproduction in this primitive eukaryotic microorganism that is called conjugation. This process is initiated in response to stressful environmental conditions. The initial event involves the pairing of two cells of different mating types (I-IV) followed by meiosis and the exchange of the haploid nuclei produced during meiotic cell division. Subsequently, the nucleus of the zygote in each cell engages in several rounds of mitotic cell division. The end result is the production of two nuclei with each cell: a transcriptionally silent micronucleus and a transcriptionally active

Greenhouse effect and global warming Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Greenhouse effect and global warming - Essay Example There has been a considerable increase in the average temperature of earth in the past century. This rise in temperature is attributed to the effects of global warming brought about by the accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. This phenomenon is called Global Warming. (In the news, Global Warming.org).The global warming has happened in the past few years and is evident from the rise in mean temperature of the earth's atmosphere. The main causes for the global warming are attributed to release of green house gases by human activities. The main gases contributing to green house effect are carbon dioxide, water vapor, methane and nitrous oxide. The largest producers of these gases are the thermal power plants, which burn the fossil fuels and produce these gases in large quantities. The second biggest sources of these green house gases are the road vehicles and industries. The global warming has led to increase in mean earth surface temperature and thus melting of polar ice . There are frequent melt down of glaciers that result in floods and other natural calamities. The melting of ice at the poles had led the mean sea level. And further increase in temperature may further melt the ice and lead to further increase in mean sea level, which will engulf low lying countries. (Global Warming facts, Global Warming.org). HOT (or warm) TOPIC as Always! Well, Global warming has always been in news for some time around due to several factors (including comical) and was even referred in the Daryl Cargle cartoon Global chaos-Halloween 2008 as one of the demons in the Halloween night who scare today's population. On the contrary this principle has been exploited so skillfully by ecological scare-mongers that it is now regarded as politically incorrect, even unscientific, to denounce global warming hysteria as unproven speculation. In his latest exciting and provocative techno-thriller State of Fear, Michael Crichton exposes a scintillating revelation, regarding the way ecological groups have twisted data and facts to create mass anxiety. He points out that we know astonishingly little about the environment. All sides make exaggerated claims. "We know that atmospheric carbon is increasing. We are also in the midst of a natural warming trend that started in 1850 at the end of what is called the Little Ice Age. It is scientifically impossi ble to prove whether the subsequent warming is natural or man-made." Greens say, rightly, that the best scientific assessment today is that global warming is occurring. Yet never in history have scientists accurately predicted what will happen 100 years later. A century ago no scientists predicted the internet, microwave ovens, TV, nuclear explosions or antibiotics. It is impossible, even stupid, to predict the distant future. That scientific truth is rarely mentioned. Why Because the global warming movement has now become a multi-billion dollar business with thousands of jobs and millions in funding for NGOs and think-tanks, top jobs and prizes for scientists, and huge media coverage for predictions of disaster. Something worth a laugh! The "Discovery" channel recently produced a documentary on Greenland's alleged "melting glaciers." Oh boy! Here we go again with Global Warming. It's
